For members of the military and their families

Military Family Support Centers
: Each branch of the military has several support centers that serve military members and their families.  These organizations include community services for families at post, family support in navigating through bureaucratic channels, and aid to assist with stressful situations when a loved one is deployed.  Their Web site contains more than 20 links to different organizations in each branch of the military, and Department of Defense programs for all military families.

The Department of Veteran's Affairs
Compensation and Pension Benefits Service helps veterans and their families determine what compensation they are entitled to, and how to obtain it. The VA also sponsors an outreach site for families of veterans, which discusses benefits for spouses, parents, and children of veterans. The veterans' life insurance program alerts soldiers and their families to the policy options available.

The Disabled Soldier Support System provides a network of resources for injured members of the military and their families.

American Legion Temporary Financial Assistance Program offers grants and financial support to families of veterans when they have no other available resources.

American Legion Family Support Network works at local or "post" levels to help families of personnel involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Red Cross  offers assistance to military members on active duty and their families, as well as veterans.

The National Military Family Association offers a camp to help children deal with deployment related stress, and also provides links to help families determine to which benefits they are entitled.

Military.comis an "online community" with articles, links, job listings and other information for members of the military, veterans and their families.

Iraq War Veterans provides support for veterans of the Iraq war and their families. The Web site also has links to other assistance and support organizations.

Organizations for others who would like to offer support

Operation Gratitude  sends care packages with food, toiletries, necessities, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation to American troops abroad.

America Supports You is a nationwide program developed by the Department of Defense that helps people send messages of support to members of the military at home and abroad. The site also has a comprehensive list of aid organizations that accept donations and aid military members and their families.

Armed Forces Relief Trust
is a non-profit fund created by the National Association of Broadcasters and the military aid societies to collect and hand out donations and loans in support of the troops and their families in need. The fund accepts private donations.

As you know we are getting really short so I am recommending that the families stop mailing on or about the 5th of January.  The packages are the big concern they may not get here by the time we the leave this FOB.
Letters might make it but I don't recommend trying.  If family members want to risk it they can, but DO NOT put anything valuable inside.  I realize this is short notice and I apologize but I would hate for someone to not get mail.
Everyone here is doing well.  We are just waiting to come home.  Please do not discuss any specifics about our redployment over the phone.  Remember little bits of information can be pieced together and that endangers the safety of your Soldier.

Thanks,
CPT Long

Hello Everyone!

We will have a support group meeting at 2 pm Sunday Jan. 9th at the American Legion in Haleyville.  I am hoping to have a guest speaker to come and talk to us about homecoming and other questions we may have.  Please forward this ASAP to the others in your group.  I apologize for the late notice.  We have been trying to find a 'warm' place to meet.

Thanks for your help!

Subject: Operation Christmas Bear
All,

Please forward this to everybody who may be interested. Please try to make sure everybody, everywhere, is aware of this. We have a massive number of defense contractors involved in this and anticipate having a big enough budget to really have a good time. There will be no speeches and no military program. This is a children's party.

ALL children of deployed servicemembers in the north Alabama area are invited. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines. Active, Reserve, and Guard.
Ages 0 through teenager.
All children will receive a teddy bear. All mothers will receive a beautiful Christmas corsage.

We will have at least  25 clowns, and several Santa Claus with Mrs. Claus, and Santa's Reindeer.
We still need TWO Santa Claus if you know of anybody who would like to help.
Dec 11, 2004. Cahaba Shrine Temple, Corner of Pulaski Pike & Winchester Road, Huntsville.
We do need to know how many adults and children to plan for. If you would like to come please email your family information to the undersigned.
Family member, Soldier name & rank, unit, total coming, number of children (ages 0 through 19)
Example:
Missy Jones, Sgt Snuffy Jones, 743rd Artillery, 4 total, 3 children.

Thank you,

"Sgt Hooah,
Official Cheerleader of the 142d Signal Brigade. It all begins with attitude."

Hey everybody, this is just an FYI email. I'm sure you are all aware of this, but just in case you aren't I thought I would pass this along. I just had to do this for Randy. Several of our soldiers will have their drivers licenses expire will in-country and will need to have them re-issued. You can go to the Drivers License office and ask for a form for this exact situation. (It is for all military, dependants, and out of state) It must be filled out completely, a money order attached and a copy of their orders attached and mailed to Montgomery. Our soldiers will be mailed a "valid  drivers license without a photo or signature" to their APO address. When they return home, they have 30 days to go and have a picture and signature done. If this is not done, they will have to take their driving test and written test again!! If you can't get to the local drivers license office, Tommy Baldy has some of the forms at the Florence Armory (256-764-5721).
Hope this helps!!!

Deployed Guardsmen Morale Call Option

Deployed guardsmen (both Army and Air) have another convenient way to keep in touch with their state-side loved ones, relatives, and friends.  It's the Morale Call option on the Automated Directory Assistance System (ADAS) installed on several Army installations throughout CONUS.  Phone calls placed by deployed guardsmen to these ADAS sites, will be connected to an automated call attendant and its voice-recognition Morale Call sub-system.  Guardsmen can access the ADAS by Defense Switch Network (DSN) phone line.  Once connected to an ADAS automated call attendant, they need only follow the system's morale-call instructions.  Guardsmen reply to the Morale-Call prompts to make their local or long-distance connection.  Morale calls placed to parties outside the local calling area will incur the usual stateside long-distance fees.  The same applies for collect-calls and credit/phone card calls. Calls should be placed only during normal nonduty hours at ROUTINE precedence and should not exceed 15 minutes in duration.  Most installations have a time turned on to limit the call to 15 minutes.  Below is a list of phone numbers for the various ADAS location:

I AM JOYCE MONTGOMERY, WIFE OF SSG. WESLEY MONTGOMERY. WESLEY WENT TO SICK CALL THIS MORNING AND FOUND OUT HE MAY HAVE HAD A LIGHT HEART ATTACH AND SOME OF HIS ARTERIES MAY BE BLOCKED. THEY ARE FLYING HIM TO GERMANY ON MONDAY FOR FURTHER TESTING. WE WOULD APPRECIATE ALL THE PRAYERS WE CAN GET.  WESLEY WAS IN THE 115TH CO. C FOR MANY YEARS, AND A LOT OF YOU KNOW HIM.  PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS.

 THANKS  JOYCE MONTGOMERY

Below you will find directions from Sheryl Plott to West Elementary for the Spring Fling on April 24. The time for this event is 11a.m until 3 p.m.

If everyone will just take the fork onto Jackson Avenue off of Hwy 43 before the bridge into Russellville and follow the signs leading to the stadium they can't miss it.  The West Elementary sits across from the stadium and they will be able to see the "jumpy things".

I would like to thank everyone from the Haleyville Family Support Group for the flowers that was sent to the funeral home for my dad. It was very pretty and I appreciate it. I thank all of you for my whole family. Thanks again, so much. I would also like to say thanks for the cards I have received through the mail.
Thank you,
Gayle Vickery

To the FRG:

Hope everything is well at home with everyone.  I just wanted to write a few lines to let everyone know at home that we are all doing well.  I told you in an earlier e-mail that we may have soldiers move due to mission requirements; and we have had some soldiers move.  I assure you that we will get their mail to them as it arrives; however, at this time do not look for
another list of soldier and their addresses.

Your soldiers have done many remarkable things since my last letter.  They have continued to improve the quality of life in their respective areas with construction projects, and have worked hard to put sand bags for added protection around our work areas.  They have conducted several patrols to different Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in our sector to get supplies,
soldiers and equipment to where they are needed.  The soldiers have assisted the mayor cell on FOB Danger with resolving plumbing and electrical issues. They have worked in towers on guard duty, and shuttled Iraqi civilian
officials to different places.  All this has been accomplished while providing nearly flawless communications.

I would love to mention specific names, but it would not do the soldiers justice.  They are all contributing in different ways . . I proud to be associated with all of them.  The soldiers that we have up in Mosul are doing well.  I speak to at least one of them every other day to ensure that they have all that they need.  The majority of the Battalion is with them, and they all look out for each other.  SGM Brooks and I plan to travel there as soon as the mission allows.

LTC Cottles mentioned Operational Security in his rumor control report.  It is very important that missions are not discussed over the phone.  This could potentially put us at risk of attacks and compromise our mission. All of you are continually on our minds and in our prayers, and we are giving 100% to make all of you proud.  Please send rumors to the FRG for
consolidation, and Il answer your questions with each of my letters back home.

The attached pictures are of one of our signal sites and soldiers (Jones, Newton & Gandy) working on site improvement.

Regards,
Sweeney

The Haleyville Elementary School 2nd Grade classes will be doing a presentation honoring the troops. Frank Newton has generously offered to make a PowerPoint presentation to be shown during the presentation. The PowerPoint presentation can be 10 minutes long and we would like to have pictures of parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins or even close friends who are in the 115th Signal Battalion that have children attending Haleyville Elementary or Haleyville High School. It would be great if you can get a picture of the soldier holding a special message to the child, in uniform or with the child that could be in the PowerPoint presentation. The pictures need to be to Frank no later than March 30th. If there are pictures on the haleyvillemetro website that can be used please let us know and how to located them on the picture section. The 2nd grade teachers want this to be a very special PowerPoint presentation. So get those pictures to Frank as soon as possible. If you have any questions please call me at 486-7990 or email me at bminor@sonet.net.  Remember the solider needs to be in uniform to go along with the presentation of honoring our troops. There will be a elementary school presentation and a night presentation for the public. We will also send a video copy to the 115th in Iraq. I will get the dates and times to you and on the web page when I get that information.

Thanks.
Beth Minor

Hello to All,

I am very excited about the crowd that we had at the Family Support meeting today. I just wanted to apologize for the lack of organization. Everything went backwards to what I had planned. Debbie Tuck was supposed to do the program first and then we would have done the sales last.  Everything got a little confusing. I do think we covered most of what we were supposed to. For those of you who were not able to attend. We have yellow ribbon magnets for sale $4.00 each, yard signs $8.00 each and are taking orders for tee-shirts that will be $10.00 each. We have adult tee-shirts small - x-large $10.00 and children's 24 mo to 14-16 for $10.00. The xx-large are $12.00, xxx-large $13.00 and xxxx-large $14.00.  Several people have all the items to sell. I am sorry but I can't remember who has what. If you would please send me your name if you have magnets, yard signs or copies of the tee-shirt prints and I will get the list out to everyone. I do have a list of who has yard signs they are: Monica Pickard, Libby Borden Linda McGough, Susan Scott, Peggy Colburn, Sherry Elkins, Lola Lewis, Debbie Tuck and Beth Minor. You should be able to view prints of the tee-shirts on haleyvillemetro.com. Orders for the tee-shirts must be in by our next meeting on April 18th. I will be glad to take your order, you can call me at 486-7990 or email me at bminor@sonet.net. Payment must be paid when you place your order or at the April 18th meeting. We also sold Soldier Prayer Coins, Spouse Coins, Operation Iraqi Freedom Coins and Side by Side Pens all for $5.00 each. These were sent down by Headquarters and we sold all of them. If anyone is interested in buying one of the above let me know and I can get more ordered. You can have the Soldier and Spouse coins engraved with one name for $5.00 through Headquarters. Our next meeting will be April 18th at 2:00 pm at the Neighborhood Facilities Bldg. and I will need to place the order by next week to get the coins here by the next meeting. We now have a fund raising committee, activities committee and mobilization committee. Peggy Colburn and Pam Knight are heading up the Fund Raising committee, Monica Pickard and Brenda Hood are heading up our Activities Committee and Brenda Hood is heading up our Mobilization Committee. If you have any suggestions for any of these ladies please contact them. We will hear from them at our next meeting.  We also have put our care groups into action. These will be posted on haleyvillemetro.com and if you do not have a computer your care group leader should be in contact with you with any news or events. This will be the last mass email I do. From now on any rumor reports, meeting reminders, etc. will be sent to the care group leader and they will forward the information on to you or contact you by phone. If you do not receive information that someone else receives please let me know and I will find out what the problem is. If you change your email address or phone number please notify your care group leader so they can make the change on their records. If you don't tell us we won't know. Once again I am sorry for the confusion today, if anyone was discouraged please accept my apology. We will all work together to have a more organized meeting on April 18th. Barbie Cottles has ask to attend our next meeting, she is the wife of Col. Anthony Cottles. I will let you know if she will be at our next meeting as soon as I hear from her. If you have any questions please contact me.  Please continue to support your Family Support Group. We want every soldiers wife and family involved.

Ladies please let your family support members know that we will have the following coins at the ceremony Saturday.
Soldiers Prayer Coin
Spouse Coin
Operation Iraqi Freedom
The cost of the coins will be $5.00.
I have a business that will engrave the Soldiers & Spouse coin for $5.00. In order to get them done at this price I have to bring all the coins in at one time. If anyone would like to get this done I will need payment that day. I will take the coins & get them engraved and then get them back to the family support group. If they want to take their coins themselves it would cost $15.00. That is a $10.00 set up fee and $5.00 for the name. I will have order forms for anyone that wants to leave their coin to get engraved.
We also have coin stands & felt bags, the cost of these will be 50 cents.
Major Brewer will have tables set up for us to sell our items. We will sell them after the ceremony, that way it won't take anything away from the purpose of why we are really there, to show our support to the community. The profit that is made will be split between each family support group. Please let me know from your group who will be helping.

SST Garry Tuck called Debbie Tuck last night and said everyone was fine and in good spirits and they have plenty of food to eat. They have 3 large air conditioners in each tent. The temperature is 114 degrees during the day.  The mayor over the location they are at was a former Lt. from this area and they are getting the royal treatment. One solider lost his wallet in a parking and it was turned in the next day with everything still in it. They have a laundry mat, alteration shop, Baskin Robbins, Sub-Way and a Hardees, etc. Please remember to keep the 115th in your prayers.

Haleyville Family Support Group

Good Morning,
I am sure everyone has heard that the 115th arrived safely at their destination. We have scheduled a Family Support meeting for Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Haleyville Neighborhood Facilities Bldg. Please make your plans to attend. There is a lot we need to talk about. Rena Glass is designing a tee shirt for the 115th and I will have the design at the meeting to see if we need to make any changes and if everyone likes them. The more we order the cheaper we can buy them. I also have 115th yellow ribbon magnets. I am checking to see how much it will cost to have your soldiers name added to the next ones I order, so be thinking whether or not you might be interested in those. I have also ordered 115th yard signs and they should be available at the meeting to sell for 6.00 each.  I had to order 250 yard signs so please try to sell them and you can pick them up at the meeting. The magnet ribbons I have now sell for 4.00 ea. All of the proceeds will go into the family group support account. We need to talk about other fundraisers and activities we can plan for the children. Hope to see all of you there.

Family Support Group

Family members of the 115th Signal Battalion as you probably already know from your soldier you may not hear from them for three or four weeks when they depart from Ft. Campbell. When they get their apo address we should be able to write and send packages. Please DO NOT write or send any packages until you get the apo address. Anything that you try to send will be RETURNED until they establish their apo address. I am sure they will contact us as soon as they possibly can. If you hear anything from your soldier please pass it on to myself or Debbie Tuck and please send it to haleyvillemetro.com to be posted on the 115th web site that Frank Newton and Linda Hood have set up for us. Please do not disclose any locations or plans that they might mention to you. This is for their safety. Feel free to post messages, pictures, stories and any other interesting things on the haleyvillemetro.com site. Frank and Linda have worked very hard setting this up and keeping it updated, we all need to support it. I would like to get the birthdates of the soldiers and get a birthday list started, so we and the community could send e-cards to them on their birthdays. So get the names, birthdates and email address' sent to the web site so we can be ready to start sending e-cards when they get to their destination.

Thank you.
